
ABOUT
Joshua Attrill is a clarinettist, saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator based in Cardiff. He studied Music at Cardiff University where he achieved a First Class Honours and was awarded the Elizabeth Griffiths Prize for Outstanding contribution to making in the School of Music, in particular recognising his orchestral and solo performances. Josh then went on to study for a Masters in Music Composition at Cardiff where he achieved a Distinction.
Josh started playing the Clarinet at the age of 9 and later took up the saxophone at 14. He played in various ensembles including orchestras, wind bands and jazz ensembles as he grew up and was awarded a major bursary by the West Wight Arts Association in 2015. Later that year he performed at the Royal Albert Hall with a Jazz Combo he played in during Sixth Form. In 2022 Josh performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto accompanied by full Orchestra. His performance was described as 'completely outstanding, liquid playing, and such a mature interpretation of the piece’. Currently Josh performs music of all genres, he regularly performs recitals, plays with function bands including Rock the Mike, jazz bands and orchestras.
Josh’s compositional style is influenced by Jazz, Minimalism and Neoclassicism. Josh’s music has been performed by various ensembles including the Endymion Ensemble and the Robin Green Quartet. His work has also been performed by Cardiff University Jazz Orchestra and Brass Band.
Josh is an experienced Music Tutor currently teaching students ranging from the age of 8 right up to 75! Josh has prepared students for Grades, Diplomas, A Levels, GCSE and Scottish National qualifications. Josh is passionate about sharing his musical knowledge with others and strives to inspire his students as his teachers have influenced him.
