Josh teaches students of all ages and his current music students range from the age of 8 right up to 75! Whether you would like to work towards sitting Grades or professional qualifications, or simply learn an instrument for fun, Josh will be happy to tailor lessons for your specific needs. He has experience of preparing students for Grade and Diploma exams and National qualifications including Music GCSE, A level and Scottish National Qualifications.
Josh is passionate about sharing his musical knowledge with others and strives to inspire his students as his teachers have influenced him. Josh aims to make his lessons fun and productive and provide the help you need to achieve your potential in music.

Clarinet and Saxophone:
Josh has prepared students for all grade exams ranging from Grade 1 to Diploma level. His speciality is Classical music but can also teach Jazz from a beginner to intermediate level and Pop to an advanced level.
As well as going through your pieces, Josh’s lessons focus on developing the instrument’s tone, breathing techniques and learning useful practice exercises. He will provide all the help you need to develop the pieces you’re learning to a high performance standard.
Music Theory and Composition:
Josh teaches all standards of Music Theory ranging from beginner level to more advanced degree and diploma level. He can cover the ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses but can also teach any aspects of Music Theory outside of the common exam syllabuses.
Josh’s composition lessons cover a wide range of compositional styles and techniques. His lessons will cover the Music Theory needed for composition and will explore the many approaches you can take to composition. Joshua will adapt his lessons to suit the genres of music you are interested in composing for.
GCSE/A Level Music:
Josh teaches GCSE and A level music across multiple Exam Boards (eg. Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJEC). Josh also teaches IB music and Scottish National Qualifications. He can cover all areas of the qualifications including the exam content, composition and performance.
Beginner Clarinet and Saxophone
Prior to the first lesson, Josh will advise on the appropriate mouthpiece and reed setup. He will also suggest on appropriate books to bring to class. If you don’t have an instrument, Josh can direct you to the best instruments and merchants to hire/purchase.
During the first lesson, Josh will show you the basics of the instrument including how to assemble the instrument and instructions on general maintenance to keep it in good working order.
